This thangka depicts Shakyamuni Buddha seated in the vajra (lotus) position on a moon disc and lotus seat, symbolizing his enlightenment. He wears traditional monastic robes (k???ya), with his right hand in Bh?mispar?a Mudr? (earth-touching gesture), signifying victory over Mara, and his left hand holding an alms bowl in Dhyana Mudra, representing meditation and spiritual nourishment.
Flanking the Buddha are his two chief disciples:
Sariputra (left), known for his wisdom, holds a monk’s alms bowl and a khakkhara (staff).
Maudgalyayana (right), famed for his spiritual powers, carries similar objects, emphasizing his deep understanding of the Dharma.
A Bodhi tree in the background marks the sacred site of enlightenment, while the landscape, flowing rivers, and animals symbolize harmony and interconnectedness.

This thangka depicts Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical buddha, is depicted in a meditative posture, seated on moon disc upon a lotus seat in the vajra (lotus) position.

Buddha is adorned in traditional monastic robs (kasaya), draped over one shoulder, leaving the right shoulder bare. The robes, in deep red and saffron hues, represent renunciation, humility, and detachment from worldly life.                                                                 

His right hand is extended downward in the bhūmisparśa mudrā (earth-touching gesture), symbolizing his victory over Mara and the moment of his enlightenment. His left-hand rests in his lap holding an alms bowl with dhyana mudra, representing meditation and spiritual nourishment.

Sariputra was one of Buddha’s closest disciples known for his wisdom, at the left side of the buddha, he stands on small pedestals, often depicted as the chief disciple. He played a key role in clarifying Buddha’s teachings and guiding others on the path to enlightenment. He is typically depicted wearing traditional monastic robs called kāṣāya (or cīvara in Sanskrit and Pali), symbolizing renunciation and detachment from worldly life. Typically, in shades of saffron, red, reflecting their monastic discipline.  Draped over left shoulder and leaving the right shoulder bare. holding a monk’s alms bowl in his left hand and khakkhara or pewter staff in his right hand.

Maudgalyana, also known as Mahamaudgalyayana, was another prominent disciple known for his extraordinary spiritual powers, stand on small pedestals at the right side of the Buddha. He is typically depicted wearing traditional monastic robs called kāṣāya (or cīvara in Sanskrit and Pali), symbolizing renunciation and detachment from worldly life. Typically, in shades of saffron, red, reflecting their monastic discipline.  Draped over left shoulder and leaving the right shoulder bare.  He was known for his deep understanding of the Dharma and his commitment to helping others attain liberation. He also holding a monk’s alms bowl in his left hand and a khakkhara in his right hand. Behind the Buddha, a large Bodhi tree with lush green leaves signifies the sacred place of his enlightenment in Bodh Gaya.

The background is filled with soft clouds, distant mountains, flowing rivers, and vegetation, creating a tranquil, sacred atmosphere.

A small elephant and other animals in the lower section represent harmony between all living beings.
