Shri Devi is one of the principal protectors of Tibet and the Dharma, also known as Palden Lhamo, she is a direct emanation of the Goddess Saraswati (Yangchen Lhamo), manifesting in a wrathful form.
Her appearance is ferocious, with wrathful expression riding a mule or donkey, and adorned with bone ornaments. She is often depicted with a crown of five skulls and a garland of fifty-one wet, blood dripping human heads, representing her triumph over the five poisons and the ego.
In her left hand a blood-filled skull cup to the heart, represents her wrathful aspect, indicating her readiness to destroy obstacles and subdue malevolent forces for the benefit of sentient beings. Holding aloft with the right hand a vajra-tipped staff, represents her ability to subdue negative forces and obstacles with great power and skillful means. The vajra is a symbol of indestructibility and is often associated with enlightened qualities such as clarity, stability, and unshakeable strength.
