Maitreya, also known as Jampa Gonpo in Tibetan, is a revered figure in Buddhist tradition, prophesied to be the future Buddha who will appear on Earth, achieve complete enlightenment, and teach the pure Dharma. His name means "The Loving One" or "The Benevolent One," reflecting his association with kindness, compassion, and love.
Maitreya is currently a bodhisattva residing in the Tushita Heaven, awaiting the appropriate time to descend to earth. He is believed to be the successor to the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama (Shakyamuni Buddha).
He is depicted seated on a throne or in a western-style seated position (with legs down), signifying his readiness to descend to the human world.
Maitreya represents hope for the future, a beacon of light who will restore the true teachings and bring about a new era of peace and enlightenment.
